John 15:12- 17, 26-27 ,21:20-25
John’s gospel starts talking about the beginning, going into the Word and light, and then John the Baptist. Jesus tells the disciples that they are to testify to him, because they have been with him from the beginning. Jesus wants us to love one another – that is to be our testimony – as he has loved us. At the end of John, the Gospel speaks about testifying once more.
So what is it that we are supposed to testify to? How are we to testify? What are we supposed to worry about? Often our worst arguments are inside the church, comparing one to another and wondering, “Jesus wants them?” What is that commandment that Jesus gives? How does he tell Peter to deal with the disciple whom Jesus loved? How would this make for a new beginning for our faiths?
