Ezekiel 37:1-14

Many times, we want God to bring us out of the place where we are to a better place, often a much better place. We don’t ask to be moved from the frying pan into the fire. We ask to be taken from the bad into the good. With that in mind, let’s look at this passage from Ezekiel.

This passage comes right after God promises restoration. That doesn’t seem to be what Ezekiel gets. Ezekiel gets taken to the valley of dry bones. Dry bones snap, they are brittle, the marrow is dry. There is no life left in these dry bones. And God wants to know if these bones can live.

I think that’s a significant question for today. When we are taken from one bad thing to another one that doesn’t look like there is any life present, can these bones live?

As we pray to be delivered from this, where will God take us next?
By any measure, the valley of the dry bones is worse than where they are, and yet God still wants to know if Ezekiel believes that the dry bones can live. By any measure, what comes next might be worse than where we are now. As the people of God are waiting to return from Babylon, waiting to be delivered, this message comes to them. As we wait to be delivered, how do we hear this message?
