Luke 11:2, Matthew 6:9
Revelation 15:1-4, Isaiah 6:3-13
Hallowed is a word that doesn’t really live in our vocabularies today. It
means ‘holy’ or even ‘sanctified.’ This is the second thing that Jesus
instructs us to pray about when we pray to God. God is holy. That may
sound obvious, “Of course God is holy!”
Yet there’s more to it than that. Jesus instructs us to pray that God’s
name may be made holy. Our prayer is in the form of both statement and
hope. We state/affirm/proclaim that God’s name is hallowed. And we
hope/pray/ask that God’s name may be seen as holy in the world.
What does it mean for us that God is holy? How do we see God’s
holiness in the world? What happens after the holy God enters into our
world and our lives? How does God’s holiness change out world and our
lives?
