We hear a transition here. We hear of God coming down, melting things. We hear of transgressions, of fire, of punishment. And then we hear of what will come out of a small place. One will come forth to rule, standing in the majesty of God, and the people shall live secure. If the enemies come, they will stand against them…
In light of that transition, we ask the question, with what do we come before the Lord? No longer is the offering system, no longer is the sense of Passover, the price of the firstborn, to be what is offered. A transition is being marked here – not immediately, but coming – and we would do well to pay attention. How much of the old way are we holding on to in our lives, and what transition is God marking for us?
